Welcome to the Hendrix College French Department website. Our French program includes a comprehensive program of study for students as well as a variety of academic courses and extracurricular opportunities for non-majors seeking to begin, continue, or broaden their foreign language experiences while at Hendrix.
Students may major or minor in French, or they may create an individualized major under the Integrative Studies plan, which allows them to combine interests in other disciplines, such as business, political science, or fine arts with their foreign language interests. The Foreign Language Department also works with the Department of Education to advise students wishing to obtain teacher certification in foreign languages. Several attractive scholarships are available from the State of Arkansas for students seeking to certify to teach in foreign language.
French students at Hendrix have many opportunities for extracurricular activities, such as foreign films, conversation groups, and Pi Delta Phi, the national French honor society. In addition, they may choose to spend a year living in La Maison Française, a small cooperative campus residence where students share their residential living experience with a native speaker. The next rotation of the Language House to French will be 2013-2014.
Many study abroad opportunities are also available for French majors and minors through the College's membership in ISEP, the International Student Exchange Program.
