arctic coast exhibit

This is a picture of me at the Arctic Coast exhibit. As you can see, it is an outdoor exhibit with many places to see the whales above and below the water. The whale that I am staring at, and who is staring back at me, is Kela.

This is a picture of Naku and Kela. Naku is upsidedown on the bottom, while Kela swims above her. Naku likes to float with her head on the bottom. No one is quite sure why.

One of my favorite Naku behaviors is when she floats upsidedown, releases an air bubble out of her blowhole, and tries to catch it in her mouth before it reaches the surface.

This picture was taken on the day when the aquarium staff first introduced the Pacific harbor seals into the exhbit. The belugas have not seen seals in a long time, so you can imagine their curiosity.

Here are Kela (top) and Naku (bottom) taking a closer look at the new inhabitant of their exhibit (middle left).

These are all the pictures I have scanned in so far.
Please check back to see more pics of the whales and seals.
